Photographer Paris, France

Raul Guillermo is a photographer born in Lima, Peru, and is currently based in Paris, France. He graduated in 2017 from the Speos School of Photography. Raul uses photography as an artistic medium to tell stories. His work lies between documentary, editorial, and fine art photography. Both poetic and spontaneous, the photographs he makes not only purely possess an aesthetic value but are revealing worlds and voices yet unknown. After many years spent far from Peru, Raul became interested in his origins and is rediscovering his country from another angle. One of the subjects he is currently working on is the ambivalence of masculinity and its fragility. Raul's work was published in the international press as iGNANT, Boooooom, l'Officiel, etc.

My work is somewhere between documentary and editorial. I aim to be spontaneous, poetic and tell a story at the same time. Most of the series I created were based on an internal motive that I felt I had to explore. It seems to me that the interpretation of the world around me is more of a reflection of what I carry inside.

Lately, I've been working on a documentary series that combines portraits, still life, and landscapes about masculinity in Peruvian society. I'm sure that this series represents my long-term vision because apart from having an aesthetic side of my home country, I would like my photos to be a dialogue about a subject that, for me, is fundamental to discuss in the society I grew up in.

In addition, I'm trying to represent more Latin American culture. I think there's lots of potential, and sometimes it stays hidden from the eyes of the world. I'm aware of how incredible it would be if the doors were open to obtain more representation abroad.
