Pelin Gebhard

Set Designer     Berlin, Germany

Pelin Gebhard, a German set designer, relocated to Berlin from the countryside in her early 20s. With a background in art history, she delved into production design for arthouse cinema. However, in 2020, she redirected her focus to set design for photography productions and installations. This shift granted her the liberty to explore composition, space, and materiality, fostering a newfound freedom for experimentation. Always driven to create, she wandered until stumbling upon set design — a creative discipline that resonated profoundly. In this realm, she discovered a sense of belonging, where her artistic expression found its true home.

I'm drawn to simplicity and abstraction, focusing on materiality and shapes in my set designs. Composition feels instinctive to me. Inspiration often springs from everyday things—textures in nature, an old sidewalk mattress, tangled construction site wire, or an undone bed. Being attentive to my surroundings reveals beauty in everything, especially in raw and imperfect elements.

My aesthetic leans heavily on simplicity and materiality, straightforward yet compelling. Despite this, I admire various styles and crafts. The set design allows for endless exploration, fulfilling limitless design dreams and fantasies.

I have a profound passion for objects, interior design, and architecture. My vision is to integrate these elements more deeply into my work, crafting spaces that possess their own distinct identity.
